While the business was started with dress making, and soon branched out into jewelry, accessories, and cosmetics.

Now that Tarte Cosmetics is no longer a cruelty free company, many former Tarte cosmetic users are jumping to Too Faced vegetarian and cruelty-free cosmetics. Too Faced was founded by husbands Jerrod Blandino and Jeremy Johnson, 15 years ago. Both men got their start in the cosmetic and fashion industry, before coming together to create Too Faced, so named for Jerrod’s pet name for the women who would go from sweet to stressed whenever he was out of their favorite makeup product.

Tarte vegetarian and cruelty-free cosmetics is no longer cruelty-free after selling out to Kose Cosmetics. Hi, all of you cruelty-free fashionistas, Jess here. I’m a contributing writer to Vegetarian Beauty Products and I’m here because I’m upset. No, I’m furious. Tarte, one of our favorite cosmetic brands to review, has sold out to a bigger company, Kose comsetics, who still tests on animals. They then had the nerve to insult its consumers by trying to distance themselves from their new parent company by saying that Tarte will remain cruelty-free, as if consumers can’t figure out that, any dollars that go to Tarte, will ultimately end up in the hands of animal-testing Kose.

Proposed Cosmetic Animal Testing Ban Law: Interview with Cruelty Free International’s Monica Engebretson

Perhaps some of the biggest news in the effort to stop cruel testing of cosmetics on animals hit the US this week: U.S. Representative Jim Moran (D-VA) introduced the Humane Cosmetics Act, which would eventually ban testing cosmetics on animals in the United States. The bill would allow a one-year phase in period to stop cosmetic testing on animals, followed by a three-year phase in period for a ban on the sale of cosmetics tested on animals.
