You know that you can feel confident in buying beauty products claiming to be vegan and cruelty-free when the founder herself is a vegan. Tracy Perkins launched her company, Strawberry Hedgehog, out of frustration with misleading packaging claiming to be vegan and cruelty-free, when they were not. Before too long she began making her own body care items and was in demand by friends and family for the goods. To this day, it is Tracy alone who makes, labels, packages and ships all of the product.
Strawberry Hedgehog’s commitment to making cruelty-free, vegan products goes all the way to a deep understanding of the implications of using animal byproducts in beauty products. They even point out on their website that so many of the companies who proudly proclaim themselves as “cruelty-free” because they don’t test on animals still use animal byproducts that are the result of factory farming (for more on this, see our article on lanolin). Strawberry Hedgehog epitomizes the definition of Intentionally Cruelty-Free.
Strawberry Hedgehog makes a line of vegan soaps with a base of 100% certified organic coconut oil and vegetable glycerin. The only fragrances used are 100% essential oils, and include nourishing herbs and spices, and any color of the soap is naturally occurring. The sumptuous soaps include combinations such as jasmine and green tea, lavender and vanilla, lemongrass and ginger, patchouli and orange, blueberry and lavender, eucalyptus and lime, and sweet orange and clove. They feature a shaving bar for men that blends cedar, patchouli, rum and bamboo charcoal. Detoxifying French green clay helps remove impurities. If bar soap is not your bag, they also have a full body care line including bath and body oil, organic shea butter moisturizer, raw sugar scrub, and bath crystals.
Strawberry Hedgehog also features a line of vegan, cruelty-free facial care that includes herbs, minerals and essential oils. Their Cooling Blemish Spot treatment comes in an easy to use roll-on bottle, which evenly distributes the healing witch hazel, essential oils and vitamin E. The Detoxifying Facial mask is made from pure red kaolin clay and rhassoul clay, and is mixed with green tea, peppermint essential oil and healing organic aloe vera.
