We especially love supporting small businesses that create cruelty-free, vegan beauty products. While there are many cruelty-free, vegan beauty companies that have successfully transitioned from small company to large, mass-distributed, operations, we often see it go bad. The Body Shop proved as much when they decided to sell themselves to infamous animal-testing company, L’Oreal.
For those of you who treasure small beauty businesses that still handcraft their own products, we think you will be delighted with Howard’s Vegan Soap. Handcrafted by Howard himself, these vegan, cruelty-free soaps came out of Howard’s quest to make a soap that is free of harsh chemicals as well as his love for making things from scratch. Unlike some companies with vegan products, these soaps are not vegan by accident, they are intentionally vegan because Howard himself is vegan.
Howard’s Vegan Soaps are all cold-processed and made of simple, high quality ingredients that are strictly plant-based. This is an important distinction since many soaps are surprisingly made with animal ingredients like lard. Even those that are not made of ingredients in which the animal was killed still contain animal-based ingredients that have ethical implications, such as lanolin.
Containing nourishing ingredients like plant oils, essential oils and food grade exfoliating ingredients such as poppy seeds and cinnamon bark, Howard offers three different skin-renewing soap options. The cinnamon soap blends spicy cinnamon, essential oil of cassia and moisturizing oils of olive, coconut and jojoba. The liquorice soap contains exfoliating poppy seeds, and essential oil of liquorice. The third soap is a beautiful blend of exfoliating dried basil and essential oil of lavender.
