Anyone who is vegan and/or a consumer of only cruelty-free products knows that it is difficult to find a fragrance that is both vegan and cruelty-free. So when we find products that meet the full criteria, such as Lavanila, we literally jump for joy.
We were recently elated to find the neat idea of Lisa Hoffman Beauty scented jewelry, which consists of perfumed beads in pieces of fine jewelry that can be worn multiple times. Unfortunately the elation was short-lived when we saw that they use musk. Not only did they mention the use of musk, they proudly proclaimed it on their site:
“Musk: This fragrance is obtained from the musk deer, moschus moschiferus, which live in the remote mountains of Central Asia and the Himalayas. It only is produced during rutting season and it is one of the most expensive ingredients derived from an animal. It is one of the most potent and longlasting of scent additives.”
So long, Lisa Hoffman Beauty, hopefully your company either comes to its senses, or a cruelty-free manufacturer produces the same idea. But Lavanila knows the importance of organic ingredients that are not tested on animals, both as individual ingredients, and the product as a whole. In fact, unlike Lisa Hoffman Beauty, Lavanila specifically states, “We do not use ingredients that were tested on animals nor do we test our finished products on animals.” We like that.
All of Lavanila’s fragrances are vanilla based and, if you’re a vanilla purist, you can purchase their “Perfect Vanilla” scent, which is a blend of Madagascar vanilla, freesia and rich heliotrope. They are quick to point out that the scent is closer to a vanilla bean than a vanilla cookie.
They also offer the “Healthy Vanilla Blossom” scent, which is a blend of orange blossom, rose, jasmine, karo karounde, and Madagascar vanilla. If you are looking for vanilla mixed with other fragrances, they also offer the addition of lemon, coconut, grapefruit, passion fruit, blackberry and lavender.
Perhaps the best part of Lavanila is that they offer their essential oil-based, paraben, phthalate, and formaldyhyde-free scents in the form of perfume, oil, body wash, lotion and deodorant. So if you find a scent you love, you can literally bathe yourself in it (just don’t go overboard!). To check out Lavanila yourself, peruse their website for your new scent.
