Suncoat Products is an all-natural, mostly vegetarian and vegan, beauty line that was created out of founder Yingchun Liu’s desire to create safe, non-toxic, beauty products for her young daughter.  Liu graduated from Nanjing University in China with a BSc degree in polymer chemistry.  She worked as a research chemist for 5 years before attending University of Calgary in Canada, where she obtained her Masters degree in organic chemistry.  Armed with this knowledge, Liu created something that the beauty world has long-needed – nail care that is quality, as well as natural and ethical.  While not all of their products are vegan, they give a clear list of those that are, including those which include carmine.

Suncoat Products offers a complete line of water-based nail products and organic cosmetics.  Most nail polishes on the market contain an average of 70% of chemical solvents that include toluene, acetates and alcohol.  When applied to the nails, these chemicals evaporate into the air, which generates toxic chemical fumes, the chemical smell usually present when doing ones nails.  Imagine those chemicals just sitting on your nail beds and coming into contact with your skin.  Suncoat nail polishes use water-based technology that replaces all of those nasty chemicals with water.  When the nail polish dries, it is just water that evaporates.  Further, because the nail polish is water-based, the nails don’t become discolored or brittle, like can happen with conventional nail polish.

Many people don’t consider the ethics/chemicals that go into nail polish remover.  It makes sense if you think about it, though; harsh chemicals would be needed to dissolve nail polish.  Suncoat Natural Nail Polish remover is naturally derived from farm crops and does not contain unnatural products such as petroleum.  The remover is water-based, but can still be used to remove all nail polish –  water-based and conventional.

Suncoat Products has since released cosmetic products that are sugar-based and vegan to keep in line with their commitment for all natural, earth-conscious products.  The great thing about the company is that they make a point to specifically note if each product is vegan, so that vegan shoppers can make good buying decisions.  Their cosmetic line includes eyeliners, eye shadows, foundations, lip sticks and lip glosses.  And for the young vegan fashionistas in training, a separate website, Suncoat Girl, is devoted to products made specifically for children.  Check out Suncoat Girl here, and for the adult beauty options, check out their parent website here!
