Tom’s of Maine will turn 50 in 2020. You’ve undoubtedly seen their ubiquitous products on the shelves of your local supermarket, perhaps for many years. You may have purchased a tube of their toothpaste, or several. Lots of people have enjoyed Tom’s products, without knowing that they have always been vegetarian, cruelty-free, and manufactured without the use of artificial colors, flavors, fragrance, or preservatives. Though the company was acquired by Colgate/Palmolive in 2006, it remains true to its organic, cruelty-free roots.

The company website, www.tomsofmaine.com displays the products in a colorful, tantalizing manner that makes it easy for you to shop by category. Please note that you will not be buying directly through Tom’s. Instead, the website will direct you to merchants that offer the products online, such as WalMart and Target.

The “Oral Care” section showcases Tom’s array of toothpastes. Our all-time favorite is the Clean Mint Luminous White Toothpaste ($4.89-$6.49). The paste boasts a “clinically proven natural whitening technology”, which will cleanse your pearly whites and remove grime from their surface with biodegradable, mineral derived ingredients. The online reviews are as glowing as your teeth will be after you use this product. One reviewer wrote, “My teeth are whiter and brighter than they have been in a very long time. People compliment my smile and white teeth all the time.” Quite a testimonial!

Another highly rated product is Tom’s Lavender and Shea Body Wash ($5.99-$6.42). We’re big fans of lavender’s aromatic and healing properties, and this product does not disappoint. Glycerin and sunflower seed oil combine with lavender and shea butter to create a cleansing formula that is gentle on your skin. This luscious concoction is also a customer favorite, and it’s easy to see why. A little dab goes a long way!

There’s nothing quite like the sweet aroma of lemongrass. Tom’s Refreshing Lemongrass Long Lasting Deodorant ($4.49-$5.79) delivers the goods you need to tame your sweat. It will leave you smelling sweet for 24 hours. The product is free from aluminum and contains no animal ingredients. It has a fresh, clean scent, and feels like a soothing balm against your skin. Though Tom’s manufactures several other varieties of deodorant, this is one of our favorites.

Please note that, although Tom’s is a vegetarian, cruelty-free line, it is now owned by the Colgate/Palmolive company, which is neither vegetarian nor cruelty-free. Each customer has to decide if this is important to her/him. Also, the majority of Tom’s offerings are vegan, but some aren’t, so check the labels. Tom’s basic formula remains the same, and you can’t beat the price or the availability of their products. Enjoy!
