Dermalogica has been in business for more than 25 years.  The company’s focus is on skin health, as opposed to “beauty”.  This means, Dermalogica products are first and foremost “free of common irritants and ingredients that could cause breakouts including lanolin, SD alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colors, and fragrances”.  According to the Dermalogica website, “by classifying skin care as a health issue as opposed to a cosmetic concern, {Dermalogica} immediately upset the prevailing paradigm of beauty and glamour.  Just as Dermalogica “removed common irritants from the ingredient menu, {the company} also introduced a powerful new element into the brand identity: the specialized expertise of the professional skin therapist.””

Dermalogica products are made in the USA, and the company has never taken part in animal testing.  Dermalogica products are vegetarian friendly and most are safe for vegans.  The privately owned company has locations in nearly 50 countries and more than 75,000 Dermalogica professional skin therapists located in at least 48 countries.  Dermalogica is headquartered in Marina del Rey, California, and it operates from a 145,000 square foot facility.

Dermalogica sells cleansers, toners, exfoliants, moisturizers, concentrated boosters, eye treatments, daylight defense products, shave products, body therapy, daily groomers, masques, treatment foundation, targeted treatments and skin kits.  Skin kits are categorized according to skin type.  The line includes skin kit – oily, skin kit – sensitized, skin kit – dry, and the “meet dermalogica kit”.

Dermalogica uses a wide variety of ingredients in its products, too many to list here.  But just a few Dermalogica ingredients include rose flower oil, vitamins A (retinol), E, and C, and lactic acid, which is known for its smoothing and brightening properties.  Lactic acid also accelerates cell turnover.  Dermalogica also uses ingredients such as lavender, coneflower, menthol, kaolin clay, bentonite, ivy, lemon, sambucus, grapefruit, watercress, burdock, olive powder, date seed, fig, orange, sea salt, kelp, mandarin orange and algae extract.
