Our Mascots

Blanca & Blanquita

Blanca was rescued along with 16 other goats when the county seized the survivors of an abused and neglected herd. When the county stepped in, the 17 survivors were surrounded by many more goats who had already died.

Jack

Blanca was pregnant with Blanquita when we adopted her. Unfortunately, Blanquita passed away when she was two years old. Now Blanca has another rescued goat for a companion - Jack. Jack was rescued because the people who ran the farm where Jack was born did not want him to end up as somebody's dinner, a fate that often befalls unwanted male goats.

During the coldest days in Colorado, the goats wear coats.

Argan oil has quickly become a rising star among the lineup of women’s beauty regimens, and Kahina Giving Beauty vegetarian and cruelty-free beauty products uses this wonder ingredient as a staple in their product line. It started in 2007 when founder Katharine L’Heureux traveled to Morocco and discovered argan oil for herself. She was astounded at the wonderful results she saw on her skin and brought it back for her friends and family to try.

Argan oil is from the kernels of the argan tree, which grows in Morocco. Argan oil is a very rare oil because it is only grown in specific areas, but it has long been used by Moroccan women to moisturize their skin and hair. Further, it is used to help with skin ailments such as acne, eczema, burns, and even rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, the growing use of argan oil in beauty products has created a job market for many Moroccan women. Katharine personally travels to Morocco to ensure that female artisans extracting the oil are being treated fairly and ethically, and the signatures of the women are featured on the packaging of each Kahina practice.

Kahina has a strong commitment to making sure that their vegetarian and cruelty-free beauty products reflect their commitment to producing ethical and responsible products. They are particularly proud of the three certifications with which the line is associated: Ecocert, Leaping Bunny and the Forest Stewardship Council. Ecocert is considered to have one of the highest international standards for organic and natural products, and companies whose products are Ecocert certified. Eligible products must meet minimum requirements that include regulations for the sourcing of materials, to how their products are manufactured and the packaging that is used.

The Leaping Bunny certification is given to companies who do not use animal testing in any stage of the production of their products, including during development. It also assures that the company does not use ingredients provided by suppliers who test on animals at any phase of production. The Forest Stewardship Council certification ensures that the ingredients in the products are from responsibly harvested sources.
